Set in the early 1990s on a British army base, 4 a.m. tells the story of Cal and Manny, soldiers posted to Germany as army chefs. Bored and institutionalized, the pair soon succumb to the neon temptations of Hamburg’s red-light district, where they dive into a seedy world of recreational drugs and all-night raves. But it is only a matter of time before hedonism and military discipline clash head on, with comic and poignant consequences.
Life-affirming raving soon gives way to gloomy, drug-fuelled nights in fast-food restaurants, at sex shows, and in Turkish dive bars. As a succession of events ratchets up the pressure on Cal and Manny their friendship is tested, a secret is revealed, and a shocking betrayal changes their lives forever.

This cover got 'the works' with regards to finishes. CMYK on top of Foil . . . Matt Lamination and Spot uv. The central mirror, type and corner elements all have highly reflective foil underneath the printing. This process takes a long time to dry and it was a real treat to be able to do this.Graphic Design, Illustration2012 -
We were asked to design one of the covers for Penguin's 70th birthday special editions, what an honour. This story is a great read.Graphic Design2012 -
We are very proud of these covers. This project was very quickturn around. The brief was to make them clear and direct, and for them to have real presence on the shelves. We did the photography and styling for The Invisible Man ourselves.Graphic Design, Photography, Illustration2012 -

Commissioned to design three Modern Classics by James Salter for Penguin Books. Both of these covers are printed over a metallic silver ink base giving them a lovely translucent quality.Graphic Design, Illustration2012 -
Commissioned to design Ian Fleming's James Bond novels for Penguin Books working closely with the Fleming Estate and the incredibly talented photographer Toby McFarlan Pond.
The aim was to create a strong set of jackets with as little reference to the films as possible and to intoroduce new readers to the author. The project received a lot of press including an article in Creative Review (below).
The covers have a high gloss finish with the titles printed in metallic ink, and the name JAMES BOND appears at the be bottom of each jacket, matt laminated and embossed.
Here you see the designs for the limited edition collectors set. Only 500 of each title exist.Graphic Design2012 -

A bit of a controversial one, if you want to look it up. We got to print on top of foil for the petals which is a real treat as it take longer to dry. I looks lovely. We will shoot the cover an get it up on here soon.Graphic Design2012 -

A tricky title allowed us to interweave the illustration around the lettering on this one.Illustration2012 -
A great project . . . a very 'difficult' title and subtitle. We used some of our own letterpress for this one and we think it turned out very nicely.Graphic Design2012 -
AC/DC . . . What more is there to say. Honoured . . that's what!Graphic Design2012 -
The brief here was to create a set of covers that had a period feel of California from the 1950's / 60's, and to give them a treatment that made them "POP". Published July 2012 in B format paperback.Graphic Design, Publishing2012 -
Attack Attack Attack!!!
Very happy with this one. We like working on historical 'stuff' and this one gave us the opportunity to make it look current with the typography, set alongside this beautiful period etching.Graphic Design, Typography2012 -
A business book with an 'edge'. Very happy to get this one through. Using the idea of 'Mighty oaks from little acorns grow' we came up with the illustration of the nesting black bird.Graphic Design, Illustration2012 -
A nice break from the usual 'silhouetted figure' that you so often get these days with Victorian Crime covers. Orion Publishing asked us to do something different with this one . . . so we did!Graphic Design2012 -
The Young Adult version of Midwinterblood gave us the opportunity to push the boat out with our detailed line work style.Illustration2013
